Someone I know asked a question in FB. I think she asked if people notice (women's, I guess) nails. The answers ranged from on topic to people stating that women in their thirties and up shouldn't wear eyeliner or attempt that goth look or wear too much make-up. I found that very interesting. Especially the eyeliner part. I am a woman in my thirties and I wear eyeliner. And I wound up thinking about that comment, the broody way I sometimes get a hang-up on irrelevant things that people say (even people I don't know).
While I don't attempt the goth look, I refuse to give up my eyeliner. However, I am blessed with a baby-face look from my mother's side of the family so maybe that excuses me? (Which does have the side effect that I am always carded if I want to buy alcohol or lottery tickets :/ )

Oh, that's just a silly opinion about using eyeliner. No matter what your age is, you can use eyeliner and it will give more structure to the eyes. My granny uses it - not maybe just in deep black - and it definitely looks good o her.
ReplyDeleteSo, counting that she's 82, we've got somewhat 50 years left :D
Ah, I think she said "Black eyeliner" if that makes you (un)happier. :P And I am not letting go of that either! Not in at least 20 years! And then I will review the situation and probably continue.
ReplyDeleteGoth look is nice. Actually, one of the main characters of my so-called novel (sometimes in progress) is a chubby goth girl from the north >:)

I was a goth girl in back in the times. I don't dare count the years, it was like when I accidentally realised it is 18 years since I started learning German. Terrifying how fast the years pass nowadays. But I don't really miss the goth look, I enjoy colour way too much. But there are residue - green and blue and purplepink hair, eyeliner, a tendency to wear black and boots. I still have my velvet cloak somewhere in the basement. Can't bear to cut it up to use for something else. I saved all the collars, bracelets, spikes and chains from that time too, I have them in a drawer somewhere bundled into a plastic bag.
DeleteCool. You should post some old pics from your goth years >:)
DeleteI listen to goth-metal from time to time (Theatre of Tragedy, Lacuna Coil, Type O Negative, My Dying Bride), but I'm mostly a black metal addict.

There are at least a few if you dig deep enough into this blog. Including a picture of me from before I started high school.. Mighty cute teenie goth. There is a severe lack of pictures of me in full garb - the ones I had taken were after my camera broke down but before I knew about it, and the rest of the time I did a fairly good job of dodging cameras.
DeleteI actually didn't really like "goth metal" so much. Mostly listened to the older stuff, like Sisters of Mercy and such. Darkwave and whatnot. Then I slipped back into metal somewhat, then back to goth, then to synth after a few friends went through a campaign to convince me digital music could be good too. And I am still there...
